or take note of the times and turn up.
The
pirate ship simulations are realistic in that the action is fast, furious,
confusing & demanding as we fight against & with real people
role playing as pirates in the 1770s. The skills involved
would be similar to the people going through the real life experience
at least on a cerebral level. The realistic visual
experience of firing the guns into the opponent ship after
getting into position, sighting and aiming the cannon at other
ships
It's a good band of brothers and
sisters that come along and crew on the ships - great friends at the
beginning & end of the battles and at the after party in the
pirate tavern - but during the melee its every man, woman and child for hisself!

One dead
Dutchman!
Don't be shy about coming along -
newbies are very welcome and are assigned the role of gunner.
If you are logged into Second Life now, just click this link for a
TP
The longship sea battles are fast and
furious - with a two-person crew, the gunner takes on a very
important role. The captain has her (or his!) hands full
steering and keeping out of harms way, leaving the gunner with the
task of firing on anyone within range.
The brigs are bigger
ships, the RL pirate's preferred vessel - although two hands on deck
can still manage her. The brigs have eight guns, so we need
more gunners - if it takes your fancy, join the
Jolly Bonny Anne group to
be notified of battles,
or turn up on:
After the sea battles we have a
melee wearing the SPD Melee system - available free at the dock
before we sail. Its either boarding ships - an exciting fight
to the death at close quarters on board - or we all head to the fort
- breech the wall with our cannons before entering and dueling to
the end - with swords, flintlock muskets and pistols (even the odd
rolling pin has effective!).

Jolly Bonny Anne, Ship's log, Second Life,
May '08
Bought and tested SPD longship, brigatine
and HMB Endeavour from
Admiral Chase Speculaas &
designed a new pirate
flag or battle ensign:
Jolly Bonny Anne!
Fight like a man!

Jolly Bonny Anne's battle
ensign pirate
flag
The Southern Cross is used to navigate by the stars to show due
south and Australians will recognise the stars from the Eureka flag
with the blue colour of the original Eureka still shining a glow
around the stars ~ the rebellion at the Eureka stockade equal in importance to the US
War of Independence in their history.
The three crescents is a wicca symbol
depicting feminist moon cycles & influences: wax, wane and full moon
although a circle of full moon is not apparent amongst the many
points projecting from this fearsome looking flag.
Four eight-point stars, three crescent moons
make the design & to make the flag cut out three curved triangles
and one smaller triangle in black.
The symbolism of the ship's name:
'Jolly' is a reference to the Jolly Roger, the flag of pirates of
the 1700s. Anne Bonny was a famous female pirate who was
jailed for piracy but released because she was pregnant. In
prison she was visited by her lover Jack Rackman and greeted him "If
you had fought like a man you wouldn't have to hang like a dog"
The battle cry of the Jolly Bonny
Anne pirate ship is
Fight like a man!
Pirate's use their battle
ensigns to enforce fear encouraging submission ~ Get this
into your head! See this flag, be afraid!

Antiquity & Jolly Bonny Anne

Antiquity
< awesome sea battles held on the waters of Antiquity, a
showpiece simulation of life in a township in the 1700s and
Victorian era.
May '08 Northfarthing, a well
known and active sim for medieval and pirate role play have just
announced they have bought another sim which will be mainly water for
sailing tall ships. Visit
Northfarthing ~ I did ask DonPaul if he was going to hold pirate
battles and he replied not at this stage although they do organise
great dances in the taverns
