Northfarthing
Antiquity
< awesome sea battles held on the waters of Antiquity, a
showpiece simulation of life in a township in the 1770s and
Victorian era.
June '08 Northfarthing a well
known and active sim for medieval and pirate role play have just
announced they have bought another sim which will be mainly water for
sailing tall ships. Visit
Northfarthing ~ I did ask DonPaul if he was going to hold pirate
battles and he replied not at this stage although they do organise
great dances in the taverns

One dead
Dutchman!
Don't be shy about coming along -
newbies are very welcome and are assigned the role of gunner.
If you are logged into Second Life now, just click this link for a
TP
The longship sea battles are fast and
furious - with a two-person crew, the gunner takes on a very
important role. The captain has her (or his!) hands full
steering and keeping out of harms way, leaving the gunner with the
task of firing on anyone within range.
The brigs are bigger
ships, the RL pirate's preferred vessel - although two hands on deck
can still manage her. The brigs have eight guns, so we need
more gunners - if it takes your fancy, join the
Jolly Bonny Anne group to
be notified of battles,
or turn up on:
After the sea battles we have a
melee wearing the SPD Melee system - available free at the dock
before we sail. Its either boarding ships - an exciting fight
to the death at close quarters on board - or we all head to the fort
- breech the wall with our cannons before entering and dueling to
the end - with swords, flintlock muskets and pistols (even the odd
rolling pin has effective!).

Actual battle chat during beta
testing of the SPD Corsair |
|
Second Life,
Antiquity, June '08 -
Just
one day before the public release of the SPD Corsair Chase Speculaas sent an
IM:
[0:18] Chase Speculaas:
Use a longship, fight us
[0:19] GaiaGirl Pearl: ok
Actual local chat with
Captain Pegleg Gans & Admiral Chase Speculaas as gunner in a SPD Corsair
against Captain GaiaGirl Pearl alone in a longship:
[0:16] Teleport completed from

[0:17] Teleport completed from

[0:17] Pegleg Gans shouts: sink me
[0:18] Chase Speculaas: want to 1 corsair against you in a
longship?
[0:18] Chase Speculaas:
Use a longship, fight us
[0:19] GaiaGirl Pearl: ok
[0:20] SPD Longship: Ready.
[0:21] SPD Longship: Mooring.
[0:21] SPD Longship: Ready.
[0:21] SPD Longship: Raising mainsail.
[0:24] Chase Speculaas: hmm... looks like I'll have to fix
the back starboard cannon
[0:24] SPD Corsair shouts: Incapacitated!
[0:25] Chase Speculaas: shit, she's good
[0:25] SPD Corsair shouts: Hanging on by a thread!
[0:25] Pegleg Gans: aye
[0:25] SPD Corsair shouts: Abandon Ship!
[0:25] You: love the longship!
[0:26] Chase Speculaas shouts: Oh... pegleg, you may have hit
that reef
[0:27] Paisley Beebe is Online
[0:28] SPD Longship: Lowering mainsail.

Pegleg Gans: very impressive
[0:29] Chase Speculaas: Well, now I won't have to
worry about people whining about it being overpowered :)
[0:29] Chase Speculaas: I honestly thought we'd crew
her though
[0:29] Pegleg Gans: oh hell a good longship take out
most.........
[0:30] Chase Speculaas: so, what was the deal Pegleg,
was she just out-turning you?
[0:30] Pegleg Gans: der just pussies..........
[0:30] Chase Speculaas: if our back right cannon
weren't broken, we'd have had her down to 4 hp at least
[0:30] Pegleg Gans: she had front guns............
[0:30] Chase Speculaas: so did we
[0:30] Pegleg Gans: we did?
[0:30] Chase Speculaas: LOL
[0:30] Chase Speculaas: yes
[0:31] Chase Speculaas: and ours are better. they
don't hit our own ship
[0:31] Chase Speculaas: I finally fixed that damn bug |
[0:26] GaiaGirl
Pearl: the brig is the same - in a longship you can sit
right in the cannons and be almost bullet proof - nothing
can hit it so close up
[0:27] Chase Speculaas: well... this could have hit it
[0:27] Chase Speculaas: corsair
[0:27] Chase Speculaas: it's just that one of the 12
cannons is broken, I need to fix it, looks like
[0:27] Chase Speculaas: you did a good job though of
staying mostly in our quarter
[0:27] GaiaGirl Pearl: NP - she's a great ship you got
:)
[0:28] Chase Speculaas: this is actually a perfect
outcome though
[0:28] Chase Speculaas: now if anyone bitches about
the Corsair being overpowered again, I can say "Well,
GaiaGirl sunk a corsair with 2 crew using only a Longship
with no crew
[0:28] Chase Speculaas: er, 1 crew
[0:28] GaiaGirl Pearl: lol
[0:29] GaiaGirl Pearl: TY :)
[0:30] GaiaGirl Pearl: the finish on the Corsair is
great - is the Corsair sporting entirely new cannon?
[0:31] Chase Speculaas: basically, yes
[0:31] Chase Speculaas: the cannons rez the balls further
from the muzzle... less chance of hitting yourself
[0:31] Chase Speculaas: and the balls themselves are
different |
[0:31] Pegleg Gans:
holly chit dats got 5 per side n fronts?
[0:32] Chase Speculaas: yep
[0:32] Chase Speculaas: I mean... it's a corsair ship, it has
to have fronts
[0:32] Pegleg Gans: dint know that, grins
[0:32] Chase Speculaas: I'll admit, 5 cannons on each side is
definitely on the high side for a xebec type ship (though it's not
unheard of in real life)
[0:32] Chase Speculaas: but all xebecs need front guns
[0:33] Chase Speculaas: most had back guns too
[0:33] Chase Speculaas: IRL, it's a hit-and-run ship
[0:33] Pegleg Gans: im like her i kin kill em all in this
ship
[0:33] You: what about a gun mounted near the steering wheel
- for the captain?
[0:33] Chase Speculaas: the idea is to be able to run up to
and board any ship weaker than it, and run away from any ship
stronger
[0:33] Pegleg Gans: i love my longship
[0:34] Chase Speculaas: and since it runs upwind, no square
rigged frigate or brig or ship of the line could ever catch it
[0:34] You: right - sounds like the weapon of choice - where
were they used? Carribean and South Seas?
[0:34] Chase Speculaas: I'm gonna see about fixing that
broken cannon
[0:34] Chase Speculaas: Mediterranean, actually
[0:35] You: oh THOSE pirates!
[0:35] Chase Speculaas: the muslim pirates
[0:35] You: Abba bin Arna & his brother Peela bin Arna
[0:35] Chase Speculaas: lol
[0:35] Chase Speculaas: Yeah... man... those pirates were
insane for a while
[0:36] Chase Speculaas: you know, the United States was
actually paying them protection money for several years
[0:36] Pegleg Gans: im hillbilly pirate.........
[0:36] You: yes I was reading - they got the biggest Spanish
armada
[0:36] Chase Speculaas: we actually GAVE terrorists a
military FRIGATE
[0:36] Pegleg Gans: i just shot at shit
[0:36] You: cool
[0:36] Chase Speculaas: not cool, lol
[0:37] Chase Speculaas: the same damn frigate later attacked
us
[0:37] You: they captured the biggest Spanish ships - lol
cool for the pirates
[0:37] Pegleg Gans: yup
[0:37] Chase Speculaas: so eventually we went to the
Mediterranean and kicked their ass
[0:37] Chase Speculaas: and that was the end of that
[0:37] You: did that war have a name?
[0:37] Pegleg Gans: same as de damn missiles we sold em ,,,,,
[0:38] Chase Speculaas: It was sort of a side show during
another war... don't remember exactly
[0:38] Chase Speculaas: want to fight again?
[0:38] You: 'Pig Iron' Bob Menzies, our PM sold iron to the Japs iron
before WWII dumbass
[0:38] You: sure, a quick one - dinner is almost here
[0:38] Chase Speculaas: oh, no problem then
[0:39] Chase Speculaas: dont worry about it
[0:39] Chase Speculaas: I still need to fix that cannon, I
forgot
[0:39] You: OK - yes I gotta go
[0:39] You: next time :)
[0:39] You: TY Chase and Peg - CYA
[0:39] SPD Longship: Mooring.
[0:39] SPD Longship: Ready.
[0:40] Chase Speculaas: well, we're doing pretty good Pegleg
[0:41] Chase Speculaas: Already found and fixed 3 bugs
[0:41] Pegleg Gans: sorry makes me hard........lolol
